How much does it cost to buy a pub in the Dominican Republic?

Travel Tips
Anywhere from 10,000 USD and up, depending on the place. Be aware - there are a lot of scams going on here. Sometimes the business permit will expire after one year, so be sure you can reasonably get your investment back in that time, otherwise you may be SOL. There are really better options unless you REALLY know what you are doing.

The fact that you even have to ask this question leads me to reccommend you do a swirve around this one.

Tanja H - great answer

Amy L - good answer too, but a bar in Sosua for USD 30k should be a huge one, most aren't really worth 10k, and these are the ones where the operating permits expire every year. Someone might be asking 30K, and may even get it if they find somone foolish enough (ironically most sellers do eventually find someone with island fever, it's just a matter of how long they want to wait to sell it). One Casetta on Sosua beach is worth less than 10k, some bars are in 1 1/2 or 2 Casettas. I looked into this almost 10 years ago, and am very glad I decided not to do it, I just wish I hadn't bought anything at all there.

But you are very right, most of these bars are empty all of the time, a colmado in the campo probably makes more money and costs less to run.

I actually know of a guy who sold one for 80k a few years ago - the deal was 40k down, and another 40 after 2 years or the ownership goes back to the seller. After the poor buyer found out that the whole thing was only worth somewhere between 10k - 20k (and the electric and water and stuff hadn't been paid in years, so he needed to pay fines to get them turned on) he was very frustrated, and of course wasn't going to pay the second 40k when the downpayment was actually twice the value to start with ..... Needless to say, the seller is now the owner again. The stories are endless. Source(s): 10yr property owner in DR

Other Travel Tips
My folks own property here and I would also reccommend that you be very VERY careful when investing in the DR.

As to the pub, I have a friend selling a small beach bar in Sosua for US $30,000 - it's a small simple bar so anything fancy would go for substantially more.

Stay well,
Amy
There is definitly no need for more bars and pubs in the Dominican Republic as half of them or even more do not have any customers at all and close and reopen on a regular basis.
You would need to get residency, business permit and you would have to pay taxes aswell, and living in the Dominican Republic is expensive, so you would need to make a lot of money with it.

In general, nobody should invest any money in their first year here, first come down and get to know the country and the people, because you may not like it at all and then you're stuck with your business.
