Relocating to Dublin Ireland from Kansas City... HELP!!!?

Travel Info
I intend on leaving my family here in the states (wife agrees if offer is right) and moving to Dublin, Ireland for about a year. Do you have any information for me that would help me in making this decision?

Thank you very much

Travel Tips
I am not Irish myself but have been living in this beautiful city for the past 7 years. I absolutely love Dublin - lots of culture available (museums, theatre, galleries, concerts etc.), great people (friendly and talkative), good nightlife (famous Irish pubs), close to the sea and the mountains at the same time.

BUT - there are a few drawbacks here. Ireland is extremely expensive, and even more so for you now, if you are moving over from the States. Food and electronic goods are possibly twice the price they are in the States. Telecommunications and Internet are not nearly as "normal" over here as they are in the States (which means that your bills will be much higher than in your home country - line rental costing around 鈧?20 per month and broadband an extra minimum of 鈧?9). The health system here is a shambles - but then again, you are probably used to paying privately for your medical expenses, coming from America. Housing and rent are a big problem at the mo - not enough houses for the number of people here. The rents have gone up unrealistically high. You can expect to pay about 鈧?700 min for a one bedroomed studioflat or apartment within easy reach of the city centre. (Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, mainly when you choose to live in an area that is less upmarket...) Public transport is not exactly reliable, either, but again you are probably not looking for that, coming from the States. However, driving in your car is not so easy here, either, as roads are terribly full and rush hour is one big traffic jam...

However - Dublin is nice and for one year it will be a nice and friendly home for you. If your company is paying for relocation and rent, you should definitely go for it. And do consider bringing your family. The state schools are good, even though in the hands of the religious orders, and free.

far out!I have no advice but Lucky you!
Dublin is a awsome place and it's cooler in the summer months then Kansas. Besides kansas gets twisters like in the wizard of oz. P.S you make friends quite often.
The Irish are really lovely people. Very friendly. You will have no problems at all. Maybe a little culture shock initially, but its a great place to live. Don't worry and just enjoy it
I'm 2 hours away from Dublin living now .Dublin is very busy city loads of people from all cultures.
Can you get out for a visit before you make your choice?
As its only for a year why not go for it find a furnished house to rent and rent the house you live in at the moment.
One year out to do something different won't be to bad I'd go for it it be very exciting going to new places and meeting new people.
I would recommend taking your family with you. Your family is worth more than any amount of money.
Maybe you can negotiate several trips back and forth for your family. at the company's cost. Where at in Kansas city. I'm north of the river. I also went to Korea for a year with out my family a long time ago. I would not do it today.
Check out the price of houses/apartments her (Ireland) then factor in the fact that it takes 3 days to get from 1 side of the place tp the next with traffic jams.
Stay in Kansas. Its gotta be better than here.
