Travel Info In Dublin, why is the M50 called the M50 as there arent another 49 motorways? Travel Tips Because they needed an easy number to remember and they plan on upgrading all national primary roads to motorways at some stage. Cant call it M1 as the N1 will be the M1 soon. Parts of it already are. There are 9 national roads leading into dublin N1 - N9 and many more around the country. The N51 which will eventually be the M51 does from Drogheda to Mullingar. There is no N50 though. Source(s): common sense Other Travel Tips No idea - but I love the question. :-) It's along the same lines as - Why are there Interstate Freeways in Hawaii ? In Ireland we count backwards so 50 means we have 49 more to build. Because it take 50 min to get between two exits? Kudos, narcissus. But there are!!! They're just invisible. Why, wherever else would all our money be going into? |
