Do you need a passport to visit dublin from the uk?

Travel Tips
No not if you are a British citizen,, i assume you do if you are not tho

Others
no you don't. But you do need photo ID to get through security at the airport (if you're flying).
what passport do you hold? it depends
no-better check your airline's website though to be safe :D
This question has been done to the Nth degree before.

There are two parts to this questions.
1: Do you need a passport to enter the republic of Ireland ?

Techincally if you are a UK citizen you do not need to have a passport. This is an immigration issue not an identity issue.

2: Do I need to use a passport as ID to enter the republic of Ireland ?
Maybe !
The airline/carrier may request it as a proof of ID, and they are entitled to refuse other forms.
It is much easier if you do have one, otherwise please check with the airline, carrier what arrangements you need to make.

Good Luck
