Travel Tips Geography Lesson for people giving answers: Dublin is the Capital City of the Republic of Ireland. Our Currency is the Euro. You can use the bank machines here but you will be charged as you will be converting Pounds Sterling into Euro and banks like to make a profit! The best was to spend you money here is using a credit card like Visa or MasterCard. You can lodge money in before you travel and you will only be charged the exchange rate and not any commission. Enjoy your time here, it is a great place but you might find the cost of living well above England! Others Where Dublin California? I don't think so Dublin is not outside the UK so no... The cashpoints shouldn't charge a fee but your bank might. Check with them - some banks offer no fees banking and once you use a cirrus / maestro (whichever card you have) in the EU there would be no charge (FYI Norn - Dublin is in Ireland not UK and Ireland and UK are both countries in the EU) Oh my goodness, now we have people telling us Dublin is NOT outside the UK, LOLOL Tell that to the people in the totally independant country called The Republic or Ireland. What do they do all day these days in school? No big deal- you are in the euro zone. You will find your own bank represented in the Irish republic and can lift money as at home, only it will be in euros. Yes some will charge a FEE as they do in ALL of the British isles, so do as you do at home, find a bank which doesn't charge withdrawals as you do in your home Town hope this helps! I'm Irish but working in the UK, so do a lot of banking between the two countries. As most people have said, the answer is no (and the Republic does not have the network of 'cash machines' that you find in UK motorway service stations that do charge fees). However, sometimes I find that my bank inflates the exchange rate, so if you're going to spend a lot of euros in Dublin, then you might ask them about their current rate and compare it with, say, getting Euros from the Post Office. You will definitely find that the Credit Card companies will charge a far higher exchange rate - Ok if you're only spending a few hundred euros but makes a difference if you go through more than a 1000 euro. |
