Has anyone ever been to Ecuador? |
Travel Info I have to do a virtual reality project for my Spanish II class, and I need places to eat in Ecuador. I also need things to do. (Specifically in the Quito area! Thanks!) Travel Tips Hi! I LIVE in Ecuador!!! In Quito itself the newest cool thing to do is the Teleferico. It is a cable car ("gondola" hanging from an overhead cable like at ski areas, "sky bucket") that goes up Mt. Pichincha to a viewing area at 13,600 feet above sea level. At the top there are restaurants, shops a food court, go carts and a mini-amusment park. About 30 minutes outside of Quito is "Mitad del Mundo" (Middle or Center of the Earth). It has a 5-story high monument with a giant globe on top that marks the exact line of the equator (Ecuador means equator). Inside the monument is a museum that shows the many regions and people groups (ethnic and tribal) that live in Ecuador. On the ground the equator is marked and you can stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere. A place that we like to visit is about 1.5 hours away from Quito. It is called Hosteria La Cienega. It was originally a "hacienda" built about 300 years ago. It has wall that are 2-3 feet thick are are made from volcanic rock. It is now like an inn where you can spend the night or just stop for a typical meal. It has beautiful gardens and the original chapel with a huge carved wooden door. From there you can get a beautiful view of Mt. Cotopaxi which is about 19,500 feet high and capped with snow and glaciers. Hope this helps with your project. You can peobably google any of these places to find photos and more info. Others Hi I live in Manta and used to be a tour guide in the guayaquil area, and i think what Sherlocksmom answer is a great info and 100% correct, about Manta is a port town some 300 km south of Quito and many cruise ships come from october to march, the main buss of the town is fishing and related industry, in a nearby town called Montecristi, the world famous and mistakaly named Panama Hat, is made, those hats last some two or three months and cost from 300 to 500 dollars in town or you can get one in Rodeo Drive for more than 1500 or 5000. |
