Travel Info Galapagos trips seem to all involve a cruise. Can you stay on land on the islands? Travel Tips There is a small town on Santa Cruz Island called Puerto Ayora and there are hotels there that you can stay at. From Puerto Ayora you can visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and there are a couple of beaches you can go to. However it is pretty limited. The best thing to do is go on a cruise in the Galapagos. You can get half price cruises if you go to Quito, Equador and get a last minute cruise that is not full. When I did this it only took me 5 days or so to get one. So it is a really good thing to do if you have the time. Source(s): For more information on the Galapagos Islands visit http://www.govisitgalapagos.com... Other Travel Tips you can stay near by but the galapagos is national park and a very protected area so though you can go on land there aren't hotels or houses built on it well right now theres big storms. like today 15 foot waves hit the island and Latin American areas. I dono if now is the best time. but yah you oculd probably stay on the isalnd for couple hours with a cruise. but not long. and yah i think they have airport. but going to a long time might get boring. a cruise is long enough You can go by plane and stay at a hotel and take tours from there. I did it that way (I stayed in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island), It's a lot cheaper than taking a cruise although the plane ticket is quite expensive. http://www.codeso.com/turismoecuador/hot... You have 2 options: Santa Cruz Island (Puerto Ayora) and San Cristobal Island. These are the 2 islands that have commercial planes getting there. Most of the islands will have restrictions, so other than visiting them for a few hours, you can't stay there. What I did once was take a flight to Santa Cruz (technically, Baltra has the airport) and stayed at a hotel there. From there I took tours around the different islands. I think this is the best island to stay at if this is the first time you are going, as you have the Charles Darwin Research Station in town and can walk to Tortuga Bay. You can also pay a local to get you across to the Finch Bay (but you might want to join a tour if you want to go to the caves, as it can be tricky to get there). |
