Travel Tips
It is impossible to skip Ecuador if you are planning to travel to Galapagos Islands because they are part of Ecuador. Galapagos is the 20th Ecuadorian province. I guess what you meant is that you don麓t want to stop over in continental Ecuador...right...well, unfortunately there are no direct flights directly from the US since the only airplanes allowed to fly to this paradise can be operated by local airlines, such as Aerogal or TAME.
You really need to stop over in Guayaquil, which is the most important city in Ecuador, rest for a few days (there are great things to see in Guayaquil), and resume your trip to Galapagos Islands. The islands are more expensive for foreigners. From Guayaquil, it's almost a two-hour flight. From Quito is farther.
Guayaquil is in the coastal region, Quito is in the highlands.

Other Travel Tips
All flights to the Galapagos leave from Quito or Guayaquil only.
