Planning to visit Glasgow r Edinburgh, can any1 tell which is good when compared, about local transport too.? |
Travel Info v r planning to go either to Edinburgh or Glasgow in June from London.many say Edin is good then Glas...can u tell me what mode of transport is good to look around other than rental car, like bus...also visiting places & accomodation(cheap plzzz). Travel Tips Both cities are quite nice. But renting an auto is best. You can take your time and see what you want to when you want to. Just carry ample cash and lots of rain gear and some warm clothes. Others Edinburgh is more of a touristy city compared to Glasgow. You can do tours of the city on open deck buses. There are many backpacker hostels/hotels in or near the city centre. If you are coming by train then there is one called the st Christopher Hotel in East Market Street, just outside Waverley Station. Both are good cities to visit. Do them both if you get the chance by bus or with a tour. The castle in Edinburgh is great as is the area around it. I stayed in either a bed and breakfast or in a local hostil. both are good for your money but the hostil is cheaper. Edinburgh is genteel, has a wonderful castle, Arthur's Seat, the new parliament (loathe it love it) and some lovely cobbled streets and a number of great museums. It's also rather touristy and a bit twee at times. Glasgow can seem grim and grimy, but it has great shopping, Charles Rennie Macintosh, the West End, the Burrell Collection, generally cheery people, and no parliament to loathe or love. As for transport, there's a number of options: you can take the train, which will take about an hour depending on when you catch a train. I seem to recall a single costs less than eight pounds, and there are super saver returns. You can also take a bus: http://www.citylink.co.uk/ |
