What's the best pay-as-you-go program in Britain for calls to the US?

Travel Info
I'll be visiting Cambridge and Edinburgh in a few weeks, and look to pick up a local SIM card for calling colleagues locally and calling home at reasonable rates. What is the best pay-as-you-go program & from which carrier?

Travel Tips
I was recently in the UK myself and found the 'O2' network to be the best for pay and go rates. They have stores all over the place (dark blue sign). You can add 'Bolt-Ons' which are packages suited to you to make your calls cheaper, plus you can still use that card as you are travelling home again for easy transition from one sim to the other. They also provided faultless reception. Hope this helps!

The prices for calls abroad from a cell-phone are hilarious.

what our friends usually do, to buy a chep pay as you go sim card and you use it in connection with one of these prepaid calling cards (best we know is the Banana card)

Most pay as yo go sim providers charge you around 1.-Pound to 2.- Pound per minute for calls abroad. (O2 has got the bolt one option, but if that works with pay as you go? No clue, then calls would be 15 and 30 pence per minute plus a monthly charge of 4.99 pound), other providers should have a similar option)

Cheapest phones with a pay as you go card you get from Virgin (from 24 Pound) if you buy online you'll get 15 Pound airtime as well. Buying in a shop gives you a bit less airtime.

Don't buy at the Airport, the prices are higher then anywhere else. If you check with some of the independent dealers everywhere in London you might get an amazing deal sometimes
