Oh, definitely the Castle and the Royal Mile leading down from it to the Palace of Holyroodhouse where Mary, Queen of Scots lived - there is a plaque there where David Rizzio was murdered by her husband and others. Also Mary King's Close as others have mentioned. And there is a good waxworks museum - better, I think, than Madame Tussaud's. Or it was, when I visited some years ago.

Edinburgh castle or the dungeons or dynamic earth.
The castle is fabulous and very nearby is Mary King's Close where you can go underground and experience what life was like in antiquity. There are also great ghost walks from the Mercat Cross just over the road from Mary King's Close. Holyrood House is also very interesting. If you like art there's the Scottish National Gallery also.
The castle is the most popular choice, especially for a large group of students. But there are loads of things to see in Edinburgh. Try the website below to get ideas for what's on during the time you are there.

the castle, the palace, princess street and the gardens. don't forget crammond or portobello beach yes Edinburgh does have beaches and if it just
happens to be raining there is only one place to go and that is the museum in chamber street just off the high street this will easily take care of a day and you still would not have seen everything and it is free yeah but try and arrange for your visit when the festival is on as there is a lot of street entertainment again being a cannie Scot this is free also
all depends on age and interest and when every thing so far is good but there are lots more all depend on group interests sent my e mail for u to see if i can help
