What are the good areas in Edinburgh?

Travel Info
I'm currently searching through Edinburgh council for a place to move to. Although I used to live there it was over 20 years ago. With regards to council housing (not everyone can afford to buy a house) what are the best areas to look at and which areas should I avoid. (I know I should avoid Wester Hallies and Greendyke.)

Travel Tips
Gosh! You are going to receive some nasty answers for this one. There are some people with real problems regarding Scotland, but ignore them, they are perfect IDIOTS!!!

I am going to move to Edinburgh in January 2007 and I made the same question some weeks ago.
I made a list and I will write it down to you as soon as I get home. Meanwhile I'll try to write down some areas that I know by heart.

Good areas: City Centre, Portobello, New Town, Dalry, Haymarket, Bruntsfield, Morningside, Marchmont, Stockbridge, Murrayfield, Colinton, Blackford, the Grange...
A really bad area is Leith.
But I will edit my post later on, and I will re-write the areas for you.

OK! Here is my complete answer.
Good areas:Portobello, Stockbridge, New Town, Grassmarket, Toll Cross, Haymarket, Bruntsfield, Morningsde, Marchmont, Grange, Blackford, Colinton, Meadowbank, Corstophine, Balerno, Swanson Dalry, Murrayfield, Old Town, Polwarth, Royal Miles, York, Riccarton, Currie

Bad areas: Leith, Wester Hailes, Niddrie, Craigmillar, Granton, Sighthill, Pilton, Gorgie, Broomhouse

These are the areas I have so far.
If you need something else, send me an email.

Granton has some good apartments, but the area is not very good. They are rebuilding it, but according to my investigation, it isn't completely good to live in Granton. Source(s): I'm attaching a link that has some useful information about Edinburgh or any other area in UK. I can't advise any link about good or bad areas, because there isn't one.

Other Travel Tips
I wouldn't like to say the best areas to live but definitely avoid gorgie, saughton, sighthill and stenhouse if you can. Hope that has helped you and good luck.
Don't know about Wardie but Magdalene's not too bad - that's close to Portobello - just try to avoid the bottom end of the Drive and a little corner of the Gardens. Good luck in your search.
