Travel Info Need info relative to train travel from London to Edinburgh. Flying in to Heathrow.? Travel Tips Just curious - are you SURE you want to travel by train from London to Edinburgh? Unlike much of the rest of Europe, the UK rail system is privatized. As a result, it isn't really an inexpensive mode of transportation. It can also involve a lot of changing trains as you pass through a region with one train line vs. another. But here's a website I used when I lived in the UK: http://www.thetrainline.com From Heathrow, you'll either want to take the underground to central London (to whatever station you plan to depart from) OR the Heathrow Express train. The express is about 3x more expensive, but it will get you to London in 15 minutes vs. 45 or so for the underground. If you want to keep your options open for getting to Edinburgh, you may also want to look at bus: http://www.eurolines.com OR Air http://www.ryanair.com or http://www.flybmi.com Happy traveling!! Edinburgh is a wonderful city!!! Source(s): Personal experience: Lived in the UK for 3 years and traveled extensively Other Travel Tips Sounds like a nightmare. They'd be better getting a flight from Heathrow to Edinburgh. But if you must, take the Piccadilly Line tube from Heathrow to Leicester Square, change to the Northern Line (going north) to King's Cross, where the Edinburgh trains leave from. Be prepared to walk through miles of tunnels and up and down stairs and escalators dragging luggage. I've done it - it sucks. This tube journey will take at least an hour and probably an hour and a half. Quicker but more expensive is the Heathrow Express train to Paddington. But you still need to switch at Paddington to the Hammersmith and City Tube Line (going east) to get to King's Cross. Unless you book train tickets in advance they can be very expensive, so be sure to book as far in advance as possible.. Or just get a flight - much easier and quicker, and probably not much more expensive. Why are people so negative about trains? I've travelled from Edinburgh to London many times and never had a problem. Tickets aren't that expensive if you buy at least 7 days in advance. Fair enough, it takes a bit longer but think of all the pollution you'll be saving! Check out www.gner.co.uk for prices and info. |
