Working and Studying in Edinburgh? |
Travel Info Hi There, I'm thinking of moving to Edinburgh later this year for a change of scene (I'm from Sydney, Aus). I studying an arts degree full-time by distance which I want to keep-up whilst overseas. Would I be able to live fairly comfortably (well comfortably for a student anyway!) on an income of around 18/19k a year? I plan to live in a share house and work hopefully only part-time in a basic admin/retail job. I just want enough to pay the rent, food, general expenses and go out a few nights a week. Is this a realistic plan? Thanks for your advice, Ashlyn Travel Tips You should be OK on 拢18K a year. A room in a shared flat will cost you around 拢250 to 拢300 a month and you well need another 拢200 to meet all your expenses (electricity, gas, council tax, food etc) There are already a lot of Australians in Edinburgh and there are plenty of part time jobs (although I doubt you will earn 拢18K in most of them) Others Im a postgrad student in Edinburgh and live pretty well on only my 拢12k a year stipend...Its a far better place to be than London which is where most Australians tend to end up, as London is horrendously expensive. Costs about 拢600/month to live in Edinburgh. Most jobs pay 拢6/hour. So work 25 hours a week & you can manage. |
