Can I camp in a national park? More specifically Hollyrood Park, Edinburgh? |
Travel Info Its not a massive park, and its near the city center...have a look on google maps. I've never seen people camp there, only walkers. But is that to say a person couldn't? Do different parks have their own restrictions? Cheers Travel Tips You actually ask a number of different questions. You could camp in a National Park (such as the Peak District National Park), but there will be local restrictions of where and for how long. Holyrood Park (note the correct spelling) is NOT a National Park, but a Royal Park. Camping or any overnight stay within the bounds of Holyrood Park is strictly prohibited. Notices to this effect are displayed at every entrance to the Park, along with the penalties for ignoring them. (Scottish police cells are not renowned for their comfort or cuisine!) Likewise, you could not put up a tent in a public park - so do not try it in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh!! Others AND NO WEB SITE??? no I don't think so, unless they have a camping area you arenot supposed to. But we used to camp on Dartmoor with no problems. But not sure what the repercussions would have been if we were caught.... Sorry there is no camping allowed in Holyrood Park as it is a royal park. The nearest camping is at Mortonhall campsite about a mile and a half away. Don't tell the queen if you do camp there ;-) No you can't camp in Holyrood Park. You could look camp in Holyrood Park though, if that's any use. |
