Has anyone seen a headstone at Greyfriar's cemetery with "C.L" and a date only. (date in the 1400-1500's)? |
Travel Info I asked prior if anyone knew a reason why a headstone would just have initials and a date, but haven't received much feedback. Now I am curious if anyone has at least seen this headstone and can comment on it. It's at Greyfriar's Cemtery, the same place where "Bobby" is interred. Travel Tips Can you give me some clue as to the location of this gravestone? Is it anywhere near the Covenanters burial plot in the south west corner of the graveyard or is it nearer the main gate? It may be included in a burial plot for an entire family and a look around the area could reveal more information. Others The record of interments is 727 pages long. PS Bobby wasn't buried here. His master was & he kept a nightly vigil over his grave. Bobby passed away in 1872 and could not be buried within the cemetery itself, since it was consecrated ground, instead he was buried just inside the gate of Greyfriars Kirkyard, not far from John Gray's grave. His headstone states, "Greyfriars Bobby - died 14th January 1872 - aged 16 years - Let his loyalty and devotion be a lesson to us all". http://www.monikie.org.uk/greyfriars-bur... http://www.scotsfind.org/greyfriars_acce... |
