Does anyone know if Edinburgh Waverley station is built in an old river bed?

Travel Tips
Edinburgh Waverley station is in the valley where the Nor Loch used to be, but it was drained in the early 19th century. Part of where the Loch was is now Princes Street Gardens. Alexander Nasmyth, a Scottish Lanscape artist painted Edinburgh in 18th Century with the Loch still in situ; if you're interested you could probably look up his painting on the internet.

Hope this is helpful.

Yes, well, I think so - the Valley by Princes St used to be filled with water - they'd drown witches in there years ago - so, I guess so... But not sure!
I think it is actually, thats why it's so deep. Centuries ago the bridges were over water, actually quite a flood risk as it has been a few times.
I'd heard the area was a loch ( or lake in English) which they drained.
It was actually a drained lake that they turned into a park to the north and Waverley train station to the south
It was a old Loch.
