Scottish Beer named "Tennent's of Scotland" is it really what Scotland Prefers in pubs up there in the UK? |
Travel Info Because that is what is claims on the bottle. Is it the Scot's favorite??? Just wondering Travel Tips Tennent's Lager is Scotland's best-selling lager. The lager was first brewed in 1885 by Hugh Tennent and in 1893 it won the highest award at the Chicago World's Fair. Tennent's was the first lager to be brewed in Scotland. Tennent's Lager was first sold in light blue cans which featured "lager lovelies", portraits of semi-nude women covering almost half of the can. This was abandoned in the early 90s in favour of yellow and red cans which had a copper inner lining giving the beer a coppery taste. Modern cans are silver, yellow and red and lack this distinctive copper taste. Cans that feature the lager luvlies are now considered collector's items. Tennent's Stout is a stout similar to Guinness. Tennent's Super has a higher percentage of alcohol by volume than Tennent's Lager. Tennent's Special Tennent's Velvet Sweetheart Stout Versa, a smooth lager aimed at 25+ drinkers. The brewery can be found on Duke street in Glasgow. Sponsorship Tennent's is well known in Scotland for sponsoring music and sport. This includes the country's largest outdoor music festival T in the Park, T On The Fringe in Edinburgh, Triptych and T Break. In football Tennent's sponsor the Scottish Cup, Scottish Futsal and historically the Tennents' Sixes and the Tennent's UK Snooker Championship even so the latter was held at the time in Preston in England. Tennent's is also the new sponsor of the Scotland national football team, replacing supermarket chain Morrisons. This deal was signed on October 3 2006 and came into effect in time for the European Championship qualifying victory against France on October 7 2006.
