I would appreciate a detailed reply from someone out there-we are from India-me and my wife-both are Engineers. Thank you Travel Tips Edmontonion here!!!! The following info is all estimates based on what my family pays out each month: If you are making that amount a month, you shouldn't have many worries. The only thing with Edmonton right now is the housing. There isn't much of it to go around, and landlords are jacking up the price of rent to ridiculous amounts. For a 2 bedroom apartment you could be looking at around $1000 roughly....depending on what part of Edmonton you live in. Some places a bit less, some a bit more. For groceries with just you and your wife, that would all depend on how much you eat! For us, we are a family of 5 so we go through a lot. For you I would guess maybe $400 a month? Like I said, all depends on how much you eat. For commute, there is a LRT here(light rapid transit...a train) you can take the bus as well, and a montly pass is $59 right now, and you can claim it on your tax return. I have a mobile phone and for basic service I pay $29 a month. That all depends on who you are with and what features you want. Other montly payments include: Natural Gas: for heat and hot water: winter probably around $150-$180 depending on how much heat you like. Could be more or less. Much less in summer with not using the heat..probably cut by more than half Electricity and water/sewage: aprx $68 a month Internet/digital phone/cable: (I have mine all with the same company) $134 a month - a little bit more if you want regular high speed, I have high speed lite. And, the price will vary depending on what company you go with. This is what I pay with my company. Taxes on goods and servies here are 6%. There is no tax on food. What you might be able to save in a month is all up too you! It all comes down to how much you spend on extras. There are a lot of jobs to be found here, but I am not sure on our countries policies on degrees from other countries.... I wish you best of luck! :) Source(s): Living in Edmonton Other Travel Tips Hi, I'm not sure what it costs to live in Edmonton, and I am not a citizen of Canada, so take what I have to say based on that. I can tell you that if you make $10,000C$ a month, you are pretty well off by American standards. When compared to US$, you make a little less that $8,500, which is well above the national average. I'm certain both you and your wife will be living in an upper class living arragement. My answer is not as detailed as you would have liked I imagine, but I'd thought I'd give my 2 cents worth. I live on the boarder of US and Canada. If you are being offered $10,000 per MONTH, this is a good offer. If you are being offered $10,000 per YEAR, this is NOT a good offer. US dollar is just a little stronger than Canadian dollar right now. $10,000 per month is $120,000 per year, and right now my husband, myself, and our 1 year old daughter live comfortably, but carefully, on under $50,000 per year. If you avoid debt and don't already have sizable debts, then I imagine that you would be quite comfortable! Hard to say if your wife's qualifications will make it possible for her to work in Canada...you need to talk (phone/email) with officals in Canadian government or hospitals. Look for apartment websites that will give you rent and utilities details, look for places close to where you will work to save further on transportation. If you must buy a car, buy a hybrid (toyota prius) that gets excellent gas mileage as gas is VERY expensive. Good Luck!!! 10,000 is a lot of money to make a month. you would be able to live very comfortably with that income. Your wife would not have to work, unless she wanted to. Her experience may transfer, however she may need to do some upgrading and take some tests first. apartment $900 utilities $200 maybe more if it is electric heat (for electricity, water and heat) Heat is basic here, not AC!! House phone $100 or more for long distance food $350 travel $800 including basic car upkeep, insurance, car payments and gas phone and Internet $200 tax-?? =$2550, so you would have $7450 left! 10,000 $ per month you make,. what kind of engineers are you? i mean is it American/Canadian company because from my own experience, in Canada engineers salary is not really good comparing to the u.s.a . 10,000$ is a lot of money and are you sure a bout this job. anywa living in Edmonton will not cost you from rent , etc....... for yo and your wife only around 2,000 max. that if you buy a car you pay a less, do not worry you and your wife will live happy after , good luck and welcome to Canada. canadian citizen |
