While not exactly reliable, the following website rates teachers by students and parents in Alberta. You need to know the name of the school though to use this. Check it out though as it's kind of interesting.

Some things you may not know about our education stem is that there a lot of user fees involved.
You must pay for transportation whether city bus passes or yellow bus.
Book fees
Sports fees
Lunch room fees
Alberta tends to have lots of fees I never expected when I moved here from Ontario so make sure you check them out.

While the high schools are divided into districts it doesn't mean that your child can't attend a school in another district. You must apply and if they have availability they will be accepted. Some students travel across the city to attend the school of their choice. Living within walking distance has become a thing of the past in this city almost. If you are moving from another province please be aware they when your child's credits are exchanged for the ones here they may find they aren't always comparable. My child lost many of her credits in the transfer and had to take classes she wouldn't have needed to take in Ontario. Here the highschools work on a 100 credit system.

If you are transferring from outside the city or province it is best to set up a meeting with a school counselor well in advance to talk about classes and transferring credits. You will find that the school system is very different from the one you are in now.

Alberta's highschool system is overall very good with lots of choices and very high standards. Don't forget that we also have the Rap Program for kids who want to enter a trade.

Hopefully these will help you make an informed decision regarding your child's education.

Strathcona? Is it a trick Question?
im not sure for elementary. but for Jr. Highs,

Ottewell is a VERY VERY good school. it was rated the #1 jr. high in canada. they have an excellent teaching program, teachers and extracriccular activities there.
I AM STRONGLY AGAINST ST. KEVINS JR. HIGH SCHOOL!! its not a great school. lots of fights and stuff. rough place.
as for highschool...
Scona is a very good school, as is McNally (however they have a few racism issues) and Wagner.
There are lots of good schools in edmonton, but these are my picks.
stay away from jasper place highschool in the west end...it is very big and has lots of violence
