Travel Tips
Basic is irrelevant in Edmonton. You must remember that the TYPE of position you are applying for dictates the rate of pay.
A good place to start looking at the pay rate for retail is:

The Bay is offering $9.00 - $11.00 for part-time. See link:

The wage scale depends of if you are looking for part-time, full-time, summer, etc. It will also take into consideration what you are looking for: cashier, sales floor, shipping/receiving, etc. Your question is too general for an exact answer. The min. wage in Alberta is $7.00 which will increase to $8.00 per hours on Sept. 1/07.

If you are looking for a CS position then the suggestion would be to try them in this order: Sears, Bay, Zellers and finally Walmart. Each of these stores are looking for employees and sometimes you can negotiate a higher wage depending on your experience and your willingness to be flexible about work hours.

While there are lots of retail positions in Edmonton and yes all the major retailers are definitely hiring you must decide what is important to you - clearing wages seem to be but also consider what else is : flexible hours, vacation time, moving up the ladder and bonuses. If you get an interview ask about those things too.

If you would post what type of job you are interested in at those retailers if would be easier to answer your question.

Good Luck.

Probably the provincially mandated minimum wage, at least as the published starting wage. It's $7.00 per hour. I've heard that retailers and restaurants in some of the boom towns, like Fort McMurray, are paying $10/hr and up for restaurant and coffee shop workers, so I'm sure retailers would have to be competitive. This is having an affect on wages in bigger cities like Edmonton and Calgary.
