Whats Edmonton (In Alberta, Canada) like?

Travel Info
I know its quite general, just give me your impressions

Travel Tips
Edmonton is great for the following:
-Shopping (one of the biggest malls in the world)
-Festivals
-work opportunities
-Snow, great for winter sports types (I've heard the winters haven't been that cold in recent years)
-Hot summers with no humidity...ahhh...a hot sun with a nice cool breeze...also the days are long. It's bright at 5am and the sun doesn't set until midnight. Beautiful!
-Last but not least the people are HOT. Cute girls and HOT guys!!!

Even though Edmonton isn't exactly the large party city with beaches and unlimited things to do, it's definitely far from a hick town. It's better than a lot of places I have seen (I'm WELL traveled). The people are extremely friendly as well!

Others
it has the worlds largest mall has everything, but ur in the mountains everywhere u look u see mountains it's air is fresh & clean & the water is so clear & taste great, it's a big city too, with lot to do.
I find it weird when I'm there, because there's no oceans or mountains around. (I'm from the West Coast)
horrible, flat, boring.
Edmonton is a City you should avoid - especially in Winter. It has very little to recommend it. You might just as well be on the North Pole.
Edmonton is a fairly nice city. Lots to do, although, you cant see any mountains from the city, maybe the other poster was thinking Calgary.. even then you might be pushing it. It has a great arts and cultural scene. Lots of festivals and concerts things like that in the summer. Home of Alberta's Legislature building. It really depends what you are into. And no it really doesn't get all that cold in Edmonton. I have never been to the north pole, but I am pretty sure that Edmonton is MUCH warmer. Though you do need a winter coat if you are planning on living there, and if you are planning on driving there in the winter, it does take a bit of practice to get used to, but it's not too bad. Just like any city, it has its pro's and con's.
Edmonton is about a 3 hour drive from the Rocky Mountains so your answerer that stated you are in the mountains has obviously never been there. I lived there from 1976 thru 1994 and the city is growing due to oil prices. There is lots of work, lots of parkland trails throughout the city. There is West Edmonton Mall of course, museums, vibrant night life, a light rail transit system, a university, an active theatre scene, and every other amenity a city of 6 to 700,000 people needs. Its a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive to Calgary to the south, 3-4 hour drive to Jasper to the west. Beautiful city that can be harsh in winter but because of how far north the city lies, the summer days are long and the temps in the high 20's to low 30'sC. Nice place to visit and or live.
