Do I have to have a job to get an apartment in Edmonton?

Travel Info
I want to move from Winnipeg to Edmonton as soon as possible. I have $1800 in my pocket to move. My only possesions are clothing. Would a landlord take me as a tenant without having a job first?
Thanks for your help.

Travel Tips
$1800 is not enough to move to Edmonton

lots of people have moved here and ended up living in their vehicles or in tents

$800 security deposit and $800 for 1 month's rent (I charge $625/month for my basement and they get a deal because they do the yard work) does not give you a lot of time and money to get a job and get your first pay check to pay next month's rent - not to mention moving expenses like gas/movers/utility hookups etc

save up some more money before you move

or if you are a young guy get a job up in fort McMurray (many employeers have work camps you can stay in) - save up money then move to Edmonton

Others
I recently moved to a different state and didnt have employment set up before i moved. I also had a large savings and the landlord made me pay him three months rent up front which is supposed to give me time to get employment. I thought it was a great idea.
Any type of accomodation is tight in Alberta at present. If you can find a suitable apartment you will probably have to fill in an application. The job and job history will be an issue. The only other option is to pay a few months rent up front. From what I hear people are practically living in boxs and whatever to get established. Good luck.
Alberta right now is booming, people want to move here and so houses and apartments are super expensive. So yes to be able to pay your rent and other expenses you will need to get a job.
The big rental companies (like Westcorp and Boardwalk) will probably deny your application if you don't have a job, so you are better off looking at the smaller companies and privately owned rentals. I suggest the south side, near the old Heritage Mall. There are lots of affordable apartments there, and if you show up with a cheque in hand, they'll have no problem giving you a lease.
Alberta is in a boom at the moment. Rent is becoming silly. The amount you have mention would maybe pay for 2 months rent and with no job I doubt anyone will take you. Even people with full time employment are having trouble getting into homes at the moment. If you find a job where the company locates you, you might have a chance.
