Hoa can she get home? |
Travel Info My friend & his g/f got into a fight. She just came from Canada like 5 weeks ago to N.H. to be w/him. No one will help her out money wise cuz she has screwed them over before. How can she get home? Her dad told her to turn herself in as an illgel immigrant, but she will be jailed atleast month half is this true? Do you know anyways to help her get home? Travel Tips If she's 18, nobody's going to care about her as a runaway, and if she's managed to screw over every relative she has by 18, I do sorta wonder if it wouldn't be a useful grow-up-already experience to be stranded... But. Er, can't the boyfriend suck it up, grow up, and pay her fare home? If no, and she's genuinely stuck and has called absolutely everybody, tell her to call the Cdn consulate. Ah, wait -- Boston Consulate General of Canada Three Copley Place, Suite 400 Boston, MA 02116 Tel: (617) 262-3760, Fax: (617) 262-3415, bostn@international.gc.ca Territory: Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont (other: Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon) ...see what they say, at any rate. Getting trapped as a tourist doesn't make one an illegal immigrant, though. It's not like she's been there for long enough to be 'illegal.' Others could she be consider a runaway? if so try these organizations they might be able to help National Runaway Switchboard - 1-800-426-5678 Hotline for runaways looking for shelter or want to get message to their family. She likely woudn't be considered an illegal until she's been in the States longer than 90 days. She could try turning herself in - if they jail her, so what? Roof over her head and three meals a day, and they don't put illegal immigrants in with hardened criminals. BUT - if they deport her, its not like they are going to buy her a plane ticket to the city of her choice. They'll dump her across the border wherever. Also, such a claim could affect her ability to ever gain entry to the States again - think of the inconvenience. If you're buddy won't do the right thing and help her, she could try getting a cash paid daily kind of job. Save up, buy a bus ticket herself. And hopefully she will learn from this little experience and make smarter choices. |
