Getting from Alexandria to the Pyramids? |
Travel Info We are taking a cruise that lands in Alexandria and would like to see the pyramids. How far is it from Alexandria to the pyramids and what is the best way to get there? Any recommended tours? We will be there for 2 full days. Travel Tips From Alexandria to the Pyramids, that's about 4 hours by car or bus. Since you will be in Alexandria i advise you to visit the library of Alexandria & the reptiles museum. And for shopping you can go to San-stefano Mall, you will find everything you imagine, specially good presents for your friends when you get back to your home country. And while being in San-stefano Mall, don't forget to enjoy a nice meal at the food court, i recommend for you "Pizza Queen", the most delicious pizza on earth, they are applying "buy one, get one for free" system, so they should be your first choice! And when you visit the pyramids, you can rent a horse or a camel for no more than 20 egyptian pounds (about 4-5 dollars). Hope you enjoy your visit. :) Others 200 k.m from alex to the pyramids , the best for u is talking the train to giza then u can go to the pyramis It's about 2 hours and half by car, it's not a long way. When the 2 hours and half finishes you will witness the Great Pyramids of Egypt!! The best way to travel between Alex and Cairo is by train. The fast train (as it is commonly referred to) will take you direct to Cairo in two or less hours. The next best way is Super Jet Bus, but travelling by bus in Egypt is usually a little longer than driving in a car, so the actual time is usually longer than the estimated time. I recommend the train. It is a clean comfortable ride. It will leave you off at Ramses Station which is located within a short taxi ride from several bus stations and Midan Tahrir (downtown). i usually just drive there it's like 2:45-3 hours approximately 250 Kilometers take the main Alex/Cairo highway Go to alexandria, enjoy your time their at the beaches. go the the restaurants, go to the sanitifano mall, it is great. go to the libraray of alexandria, and the greel roman museum. about going to the pramids, I think is buy going on a train. Because taking a car or a bus, is long, and boring. when you take the train take the air conditioned one. and enjoy the view from the window. I do not know any tours my self. But look for one. or hook up with somebody from egypt while you are in alexandria and ask them to help you out. because when you reach cairo you need to get a cab, or somthing it takes like an hour or so, there is traffic and stuff. If you do not have an arabic speaking person the cab drivers are going to charge alot. and they will try to make as much money off of you. I mean I am an egyptian and speak arabic, and they will ripping me off. But, then again they have to make a living. So have some one who speaks in their toung. That is all I know. Well, I go to egypt every 5 years or so, that is what I did this summer. I hope that helps. You will be able to fit a visit to Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza into a one day trip. I think you would be fine to do it, with out linking in with a local tour from Alexandria to Cario. But,if you wish to do it that way, then you will find many day tours are available. All have much the same itinerary. Try the Egyptian Department of Tourism's web site,w.w.w.touregypt . There you will find out all the information you could possibly need. Personally, I would catch an early "fast train" from Alexandria, then hire a taxi to Giza Plateau from Rameses Station. It should cost you around 30L.E. one way. But it would be best to hire it for a half day for 50LE.You may have to bargain. But that is what I would be prepared to pay! The taxi will then take you to one of the two entrance gates and be there waiting for you at a prearranged time, and take you back to Cario. Allow around 2-3 hours for looking around the Giza site.Unless you are a real "Egyptophile", that should be long enough for you to visit the inside of a pyramid, view the Sphinx,go for a wander around the three pyramids and the 4th and 5th Dynasty temples, visit the Giza Museum ,see the solar barque etc. Even time to go for a camel or donkey ride. But remember to agree on the price before, you get on its back! You should also just spend some quiet time.Just gazing in awe at the incredible size and volume of the Pyramids and what they represent. Everytime I see them, I still get an indescribable feeling of awe and wonderment. Knowing my eyes, are looking apon the same sight that the eyes of Rameses,Thumoses,Caeser, Herodotus,Napoleon etc. etc. looked apon and shared in the same feeling of wonder. Also respect for a civilization that lived thousands of years before any of the fore mentioned people, or you or I have lived. They will likely be there for thousands of years to come.God and man willing. To me that is a very special feeling! |
