How much is my money worth in Egypt?? |
Travel Info I am from the USA my daughter bought for us a trip to Egypt, I know little of this country, any ideas ??? But primarily how much is my money worth there? Travel Tips depends where you are staying cheapest place luxor and Aswan all prices Egyptian pounds and include tips etc exchange rate $1 us =5.7 Egyptian pounds lunch in hotel inc soft drinks etc 60 dinner at night in hotel 80 dinner in town Egyptian restaurant 50 ticket to one attraction between 20 and 60(average) taxi to west bank 100-130 nescafe in hotel 15 you can sign for anything in the hotel and pay by credit card when you leave. But take care sometimes credit cards dont work out there. there are ATM's in many places. ATMs accept all credit cards and mastro cards. banks are often in the hotels and dont charge for changing money ( or didn't last time i was there) though they do spmetimes in sharm if they want to charge look around for a cheaper one for Cairo add 10% for sharm add more almost as expensive as England but depends on hotel and star rating. e.g. glass of wine in 4 star =35 in 5 star = 50 trip out with the tour guides e.g. kuoni etc. much more than finding a taxi and doing it your self balloon trip over west bank about EP600-EP800 depending on company. taxi to a club at night 30 alcohol expensive between 25 and 50 for one drink easy to make it cheaper, eat in small restaurants out side the hotels there are many, take in duty free alcohol with you. buy water in a local shop not in the hotel. negotiate your own trips out. have fun i love it there and contrary to all those doom and gloom merchants cairo is one of the safest capital cities . take simple precautions dont dress provocatively, stay in public places. dont flash your cash. Most americans i have met out there had a wonderful time, including a number i met who lived and worked out there during the gulf war. I am english and have never yet felt seriously threatened. However while the egyptians are usually honest and will not normally steal, they see absolutly no problem with cheating you out of your money. so watch any deals you make. Others Your Dollar is worth 4.8 Egyptian Pounds, good luck and enjoy the Pyramids and the Sphinx, they are fantastic, try to see them at night!Be careful, the Egyptians can be a little "light fingered" but they are fun also, don't forget the "old Bazaar" in Cairo, what a place! your money would be worth....i have no idea! use this online money conversion calculator. (actually 1 USD is around 5.7 egyptian pounds) ya man have fun watch out for the pickpockets though there are so many in and around the airport :) http://www.xe.com/ucc/ I believe one US dollar will buy you about 5.70 Egyptian pounds. I would find out a little bit more about this country before travelling there. It's not the same (and not as safe) at the United States. 1 USD is exactly the same as 1 USD....it's just that goddamn exchange rate... i mean you could almost be a millionaire in Italy for like 5000 USD.....nah only messing...it's worth 5.7 egyptian pounds.... Your dollars will take you much further in Egypt than in the US. To give you an example: the average Egyptian makes about 50-60 USD per month. From this money he has to support his whole, often very large family! And yes, it is possible to live in Egypt with this little money - in rags and often wanting, but still living. So when you pay in Egyptian Pounds (LE), you will be surprised at the low prices. (Unless you are charged "tourist" prices.) It is possible to eat a real meal in a cheap Egyptian restaurant for aroud 10 LE - 1.50 USD. A water bottle is 1.500 to 2 LE, a cheap fool (=mashed beans) sandwich from a stall will cost 0.250 LE. A short-distance taxi in Cairo is usually 5 LE, a caleche in Luxor will cost between 5 and 10 LE. |
