Can you spend US Dollars in Egypt?

I'm off on my holidays to Cairo soon. Are US Dollars widely accepted or is it better to take local currency?

i think they prefer this actually because they get better exchange rates etc. However, US dollars maybe not excepted thoughout the country so i would recommend taking a small amount of egyptian pounds anyway.

No they wont accept it out there, best to take local currency
US dollars,Euro,sterling Pound,all widely accepted here,and if you ever needed local currency there are dozens of banks there where you can get some
