Wthout the Nile they would have a problem in finding drinking water and they would not have been able to grow crops. Egyptians would have either gone thirsty or hungry or would have had to move somewhere else!
It helped in many ways.

First it allowed boats to travel both up and down the river taking their wares and things to the markets all up and down the Nile, and to the people who wanted or needed them.

Secondly: The areas immediately next to the Nile river would be flooded just about every year which allowed the surrounding ground to be actually fertilized with new silt, etc which was beneficial to the farmers and this allowed them to grow the food stuffs as well as the cotton and papyrus that was utilized by them on a daily basis.

:)
The Nile river water supplies the egyptians fields.Particularly the Ancient Egyptians considered Nile as the "gift of the gods" because their lifes were connected with the running of its water.
