Travel Tips There are million tips, but simply take this as the most important "respect the culture and differences, you will enjoy your time" Souvenirs depend on which city you are visiting. In general hand mades are nice souvenirs. Papyrus and small Pharaonic things also nice. Be careful that no one tells you that papyrus is made of the same plant like the old and real ones. The same goes for any pharaonic souvenirs. Never pay before you know prices in many shops and bargain with sellers. I don't have it and I'm not nearly as funny but the gist was that females are very vulnerable if alone, the men leer something chronic. Be very wary of making oral deals with anyone. If you are taking a taxi, work out the price before you get in or they will try to rip you off. It is a tourist mecca so shop around for the best price for souvenirs. Again, they will try to rip you off and apparently you get sick of the alabaster everything but trinket stands are everywhere. They have camel rides for tourists near the pyramids and it may be a once in a lifetime opportunity but it hurts like crap! That's all for now. Well, i would suggest you get an arabic/english dictionary. I got a nice small one from Borders. I think it was called Eyewitness or lonely planet. Anyway, make sure its egyptian arabic because arabic is different in each country. If you are going in the summer wear light cotton shirts, and khaki pants. Also, drink lots of water. I didnt drink enough at first and got very sick from the heat. If you need medicine you can go to the pharmacy . They have Immodium, and Ketophan which is an aspirin. They have many other medicines so i could give you a list of some you might need if you want. Some of the sites you visit will charge a little extra for some special things. Like to climb inside the pyramid cost a little extra. Also to see the mummy room at the museum. But it is worth it. Egypt has a lot of american restaurants, but egyptian restaurants are good also. Definately try their food its great. To buy souveniers most tourists go to Khan el-Khalili . They will ask for more though since mostly tourist go there...so try and barter. People in Egypt are actually after you moneya ll.. So a lot of people will try to rip you off.. Even the taxi drviers will ripe you of.. fo rexample, the taxi may cost the locals 5: .LE and they'll charge 75.00 L.e. Which is like 5.00 L.E 1 dollar and almost 100 dollars because you forigner and have a lot of money as they think.. Even the tour guide mighgt rip you off simply.. Everyone know each otehrs the tour guide might take you to a restourant that he knows people there to ripp ya off easily.. So watch out event the government places is not to be trusted.. T There is corruption in that country.. Pollution is the main think there it's the most polluted place in the world.. You can't drive there at all I think the first day or week you'll get sicka dn think of coming back to tyour homeland.. well, there are of course beautiful places to visit while you're there... |
