What would you do if you were..?

Travel Info
Responsible for promoting Tourism in Egypt!?
assume; have a big budget and a goal to enhance and promote travel to Egypt, i.e. you are Minister or any other responsible member in the gov...
What would you do differently? what would you add? what would you eliminate?

Travel Tips
The first thing I would do,instead of just talking about about it is,for all businesses involved in tourism to be obliged by law, to be registered and adhere to set guidelines and a code of practice.
No registration,no business.
This would include regular spot checking health and fire inspections for all forms of tourist accommodation.
Put full air conditioning in the Cairo Museum to stop deterioration of the artifacts and make to it more pleasant for tourists visiting the museum.
Set a time projection for the desperatly needed cataloguing, identification, micro chipping and clearing of the many thousands of unclassified artifacts, mummies, statues etc. That remain "as deposited" in the basements of The Cairo Museum.
Insist that all significant artifacts such as The Rosetta Stone be returned to the Egyptian people.
If not permanentley then on a one year about roster.
Make it essential by means of registration, that all tour guides have completed a recognised certificated degree course. In the areas of pre dynastic, dynastic and post dynastic Egypt. In addition the degree course would include the history of Islamic Egypt and modern Egyptian culture and traditions. They should also have excellent English skills and/or one other language.Plus, security observation skills and training, martial arts training and a first aid certificate.
An essential upgrading of the current inadequate optional qualification. Registration required for employment in the tourism area.
Make it a condition of employment/continued employment that all Tourist Police have adequate English skills and are trained in first aid.
(This is supposed to be slowly implemented over the next 10yrs???)
All Tourist Police would carry a supply of give away directional maps.Applicable for the city or area they are assigned to.These would be freely available for tourists who require direction to their hotel or a site of interest for example.
Tourist Police should maintain a good working knowledge of the area they are assigned to.
Including all sites of historic interest, location of banks, hotels etc.
All vehicles that carry tourists be fitted with seat belts and be maintained in a roadworthy condition.
Trains that carry tourists should have hygenic toilet amenities that are maintained as such, during the journey.
Carry out desperatly needed restoration works on monuments and temples and place any further investigation of new sites on the back burner. Until all the restorations have been completed.
Complete and publish all research and findings related to archeologigal exploration and Egyptology research in recent years.
Many findings since the 1970's are still awaiting permission to be published.
Close all temples, tombs or monuments to the public that are in severe danger of continued rapid deterioration of reliefs and wall paintings. Until they have been fully restored.
Example: the tomb of Queen Nefertari,is now closed until restoration and conservation procedures have been funded and completed.
This tomb is only available to be opened by written request for a payment to the S.C.A. of $20,000 U.S.
The list could go on, but I see these are the among the most desperate needs for tourism in Egypt.
So we can improve and increase the standard of service that the tourists now expect and are entitled to.Also to ensure that the wealth of ancient Egypt and the bequeath of the Pharaohs is still maintained and conserved. It is imperative it is done in such a manner that will ensure its continued availability for the generations to come after us.
We are the caretakers, and it is every Egyptians responsibility to do what they can to help preserve Egypts past for her future.

Addit 2min later. I forgot to mention the importance of utilising the world media and the making of tourism infomercials for the overseas market. Also giving incentives to tourist agencies overseas to entice clients to extend thier stay as is done in South East Asia. Source(s): Final yr. Egyptology student.

Other Travel Tips
I would try to assure people that it is safe to travel in Egypt.
I would start by hiring efficient cleaners and security people to keep the place clean and stop those who think it's cool to write or engrave their names on an ancient monument.
Then I would get rid of beggars and opportunity seekers who hang around touristic places and try to make money out of anything at all. Maybe making booths for people selling T-shirts, papyrus, brass and marble decorations and even for selling and promoting camel rides instead of having people chasing tourists and Egyptians as they try to enjoy their time.
Another thing would be giving more attention to touristic places which are not as famous as the Pyramids and Spinx and promoting for them maybe by selling brochures or vouchers for tours to these places. There are beautiful ancient places in Egypt that are not even so known to locals who live away from them.
I have 2 e mail addresses and i see the answer i gave under mr t, has been taken off because it hit to near the mark of the police who monitor these sites. so you will have to ask thomsons and the big tour operators for a copy of their return home flight Questionare, even my booking forms on my web site are tampered with as i found out a few weeks ago.

The 1st thing i would do is to restructure the services we have and the supporting services starting from transportation's up to infrastructure and security , then i will go for the Tourism service , Hotels , Guides ,
Egypt Tourism doesn't have a Good Marketing media to let ppl know about Egypt , they have started but not good yet
Egypt has a unique thing which is the Old civilization but doesn't care for so any one want to see it will come one time and will never do it again , so we have to find new things instead of it , Even Sainai is has a lot of things not done yet
