Egyptian Menu. How Do I stay safe?

Travel Info
I am going to Egypt this year and My main worry is eating.
What should I do?
I was warned in Cyprus a few years back that I should not eat on my day trip to Egypt as it can be dodgy.
I am now going and spending a few days in Cairo and am Thinking about the precautions with eating the food there.
If there is water in the food or they use water some how I could get very ill.
please help. I really want to go but don't feel safe with this.
We are also going to Red Sea.

Travel Tips
Hi, y r u so worried!. There is nothing wrong with the food in Egypt. As long as u r eating in the right restaurants, pubs, hotels, then u have nothing to worry about. Try to stick to the main stream restaurants, don't venture into eating from food carts on the road nor any old outlet.

The food is not bad, the food is sometimes cooked with slightly different igridents such as animal ghee, which usually makes the food tasty, but can be a bit heavy on the stomach. That does not mean the food is bad or has bacetria or anything.

Water is of course used for cooking purposes, tap water is in general clean enough. You can't ask them to cook with bottled water, u would sound like a freak. Source(s): experience.
Other Travel Tips
No more dodgy than here in the US. Do you know how many resturaunts here get sacked by the health department? Egypt is no different than anywhere else, you have good places and bad places. If the place doen't look clean then don't eat there.
Don't worry, take a chance and enjoy the trip, I wish I was going.
In hotels and good restaurants you'll not have a problem as they have international cuisine and they are supervised. In the Red Sea if you mean Hurghada for example there are many good places no need for names. Just if you go to dessert safari take care of the food if you are not going with a big company.
In all cases you have to drink mineral water not tap water and drink enough. Also you have to keep enough salt in your food specially in summer time. If you dive or have some activities you better don't drink alcoholics specially in the summer time.
Some tourists who come from very cold or different weather countries they may have some stomach disturbance in the first 48 hours in the first time they visit Egypt, but if you don't worry and stayed in a good hotel don't expect it at all.
My advice is.....Only bottled water, no fresh vegi's or canned meats like unium(mortadela), watch out for food from street vendors, and I had fish from the red sea and had diarrhea.
No fresh water only bottled. No fresh veggies unless you wash them yourself with bottled water. Just to be on the safe side take with you "Imodium" and "Ercefuril"
My only suggestion would be to drink tea or bottled water instead of tap water, but definitely bring some pepto or other stomach meds just in case. You can only avoid so much in the end. You shouldn't have too much trouble if you're visiting quality restaurants.
