Several Questions About Egypt (Cairo Area)? |
Travel Info Okay, so I am going in the Fall this year with my husband. We will be staying with my Father, who lives there most of the time now. It has been 20 years since I lived there, so I know a lot has changed, but he is unable to answer some of my questions, so I am hoping for some help. 1. I cannot find anyone in my area who speaks Egyptian Arabic. I don't speak Arabic at all, but want to learn the basics. If I learn MSA (Modern Standard), will people understand me? Or will they just fall down laughing? 2. Where exactly is 6th of October? I cannot find it on a map. I have stayed with him in Heliopolis, Dokki, and Ma'adi, but his new villa is in 6th of October. Can you give me an idea of where the heck it is, please? 3. Do they do acrylic fingernails there? I know I can get my eyebrows threaded, but I need to know about the fingernails so I can make preparations if I can't get them done there. Thanks so much for any and all information you can give me. Travel Tips 1- Egyptians would never fall down laughing when listening to people trying to speak their language. They might smile, but out of pride and friendliness, so don't worry about that point. Speak what little you can learn and you will see support. 2- 6th of October is actually in Giza, it is outside but close to the pyramids area. It is a lot easier to go there through the fairly new 26th of July extension, from Lebanon street, or through the ring road to the pyramids (El Remaya) area, depending on where exactly in the 6th of October you want to go. I can offer more help if you mention the compound or area name as I live in the 6th of October. 3- there are places that do acrylic fingernails here: Tarek nail salon: 47 Michel Bakhoum st. Dokki (Tel. 7487422 - Mob. 012 3259707) Royal Nails: 11 Sphinx Sq., Mohandeseen, Giza. (Tel: 3048841) I have not tried the nail salons myself but I have come across them while driving more than once and they look ok to me. Don't forget to add the country and are code if you decide to call them. Others If you speak MSA or "fos7a" people will understand you, but they will laugh. They'll think you are a "khawaga" (foreigner). 6th of October is not very far away from Cairo. I'm sure your father can tell you exactly where. As for your nails, you can find acrylic fingernails done but you'll have to look for a big well known salon. You'll find several in Cairo, but I don't know about 6th of October. Welcome to Egypt. you are welcome here Speaking Standard Arabic is a good Thing , It may be amusing , but it is not a matter of making fun , especially with many people who really appreciate that. 6th of October is a newly founded district on Cairo- Alexandria desert road , it's Famous for Media production City Sorry I have no idea about 3rd question i am from egypt.it is nice and big and you will engoy it. you would like to visit the pyramids and loads of beaches you better go I only know 1. Speaking Arabic is not necessary. Most Egyptian people know enough English to communicate. Besides, there is no way you are going to learn standard Arabic from now until the fall. lol 1. Speak MSA and you are very welcome. 2. 6th of october is an extention of Cairo at the Cairo/Alex road. Drive as if you go to Alex from Al-Haram st. and 6th of October city resides 20 Km away on the road towards Alex. 3. There is many bueaty center you can find what you seek, but i'm a man i can't help so far in this way. Travel to Egypt and worldwide http://www.travelinfo.uni.cc |
