If I separate my trash, will it be recycled, or is there no such thing in Egypt? |
Travel Info I'm trying to go green right now (as green as you can go in Egypt which is not very much I'm afraid). So I was wondering since there are no recycle bins anywhere, if I separate my trash at home will it simply get mixed up again in the dumpster or will it be recycled? The only place I've seen recyle bins is in the AUC where they encourage you to recycle paper only. Other than that I'm clueless. I know that garbage collectors go through the trash to salvage whatever they can, but I'm asking about real recycling. Travel Tips OK, that's sound strange for you but it is the truth. In Egypt you put all the garbage in one basket ,after that some poor people come and take many things from it such as (iron, food, cartoons and papers) then after that the garbage car will come and collect all the garbage , they put it in one area, then they squeeze it and sell it to farmers for the plantation process. I have a farm and i buy this from them and it help grow my plant faster and healthy too bcoz it contains alot of iron, zinc, lead,etc...... So , make as all the Egyptian do , throw it in the trash box. I hope my answer could be useful for you. Others Well, try to organize people to do so. Well, there are many places to recycle try to put all the pepsi cans etc together and recycle them. So you can go and sell the even for less.. Her in the U.S environemtn is much much cleaner than in Cairo. You know like there in Hadyek al Maadi and other places there are trash every where. But I think million of people can work together and make the environement clean.. Try to teach people around yo to go green not just you but everyone around ya.. That way it'll be habit.. Like here because most of the people are educated the do the right things to keep the environement clean.. so do your part there.. you answered your own question, leave the poor have a little money from what they can make from your trash. seen where they dump it in Cairo dead dogs horses donkeys ! in the canals on the way to Giza so all of us tourists can say" ooh"what a poor country, we saw from the hotel room in Aswan where they dumped , in an empty falling down house, on the roofs Etc There is no such thing in Egypt for home garbage. They do it manually, but in some hotels and other places they separate trash for some kind of recycling of plastics or papers when the quantities are valuable and easy to be separated. It'll be very positive if you think about doing something to solve this problem even if it's a very limited activity or if it's not successful. At least let everybody know what you want to do. May be you'll find another person or many people who can be also think with you. If you wish Egypt to be green go on think about what to do and discuss it with others then make it. If you a useful ideas and you need to discuss it let me know. Of course they are recycled. The thing is it doesn't always seem that way, but eventually it does. plastics, woods, aluminuim, paper, etc. all that is recycled or reused. the wastes which is still have no definite fate are electronic valuable components (Ag, Au and Cu) found in PC wastes. some inorganic wastes (batteries, paints, etc..). The only problem of domestic wastes is the segregation (like what you are trying to do) and the awareness of people of what is considered to be hazardous or non-hazardous wastes. But i think this is no big problem to the waste recycling industry, as they use cheap labour to do the segregation later at the dumping areas. By the way 100% of the labour in waste segregation are infected with virus c. |
