Travel Info How many different shapes of Pyramids are there? And what are they? Travel Tips are you speaking mathematically or historically. Mathematically there are as many shapes as there are regular two dimensional polygons, e.g. if a square forms the base it is a square sided pyramid if a triangle forms the base it is a tetrahedron or triangular based pyramid if a hexagon then is a hexagonal pyramid etc etc. if you are talking historically, then all the pyramids that i know about in Egypt are square based pyramids, however they are not all regular, for instance the stepped sided pyramid at saqarra (mentioned above)is just that a series of steps and the bent pyramid at dashur changed its angle half way through construction. The remaining pyramids were as far as i know originally built to be regular.
