Thinking of visiting Luxor how easy and cheap is for a couple to visit nearby sites without pre-booking tours? |
Travel Info Planning a visit in the next couple of months (yes I know it will be ridiculously hot...) and would prefer not to book Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, the temple of Hatshepsut and Colossi of Memnon, Karnak and Luxor temple complexes and the temple of Hathor and Denderah etc through the tour company because it seems a bit pricey and I don't like fixing dates so early. I'm guessing that you can book excursions easily and cheapily when you are out there but has anyone had experience of this and give me an indication of how much it would cost and how easy it would be????? Would be most appreciated x Travel Tips It is very easy to see these sites with out booking tours. It is also alot cheaper. Simply walk outside your hotel and find a taxi, there will be several right out side your hotel. negotiate with your driver for a price to the west bank. The driver will take you to the places you want to go to and you will buy your tickets at the entrance to the site or at the ticket office. to hire a taxi for the morning will cost you around 100 EP( around 拢10) as I say the price is negotiable and if you get on with your driver then use them again if not find another. Tickets vary in price from around 40EP 拢4 up to I think about 70EP. It is as you say very hot so always take water with you and go early to ensure less heat. Don鈥檛 try to do too much on one day, but all the places you name above can be visited in this way. The only one that鈥檚 a little bit different is the temple at dendera, this is about hours to hour and half drive away. You will have to travel in convey, 'police rules' there are several in a day and your driver will know when they are. The problem with that is most taxis are 7 seater Peugeot estate cars and quite elderly, they do not have air conditioning. You can hire vehicles with air conditioning but they are pricey. I have done this trip in the summer and it鈥檚 ok but exhausting. An alternative is to take boat from outside the novotel, it takes all day and again is hot but it does have air conditioning down stairs, (though not very comfortable) and interesting to cruise down Nile. but i have to say dendara is worth the visit. The cost of the ancient sites are from 25 le to 120le. only 2 places to visit on the east bank. all the rest are on the west so if you stay on the west bank it saves a lot of hassle with touts taxis etc also its much cheaper. why not hire a villa or apartment, look at this web site it may be of help. www.egypt-tours-luxor.com www.myegypt.co.uk we went to luxor last year & going again in 4 weeks.book your trips with a local tour company it's so much cheaper.we used one that is under the winter palace hotel(thats where we stayed).they were great & very cheap so i'd highly recommend them to you.we still exchange emails with one of the young men that works there.i honestly can't remember the name of it but you can't miss it,it's next to the big stair case outside the hotel. the prices are more or less half of what you pay with the travel agents tours & they are very informative & will accomodate any requests you may have or change any set plans that are involved in a tour to meet your needs. hope you enjoy the place as much as we do... i advice u to visite also cairo and alex or sharm they are great cities and about luxor it 's so cheap just choose cheap hotel and if u r going to stay in cairo add me to ur email and i will help u to get every thing in the cheapest price and i can help u to rent a cheap flat becouse if u r going to stay for long time like 1 month it 's better to rent a flat. contact me and i can answer all ur questions egypt_pop21@yahoo.com |
