This is a very common practice that takes place in many countries to avoid money laundering so no it sure is not a stupid thing to do, most countries have similar laws. Others I dont know it sounds stupid No dont think this is true, hope not anyway im going to egypt tomoz!!! no it isn't true. i went to egypt last year and ended up bringing some home with me. they don't even check how much you take in or take out. This is untrue. I travel to Egypt numerous times during the year and have always brought back Egyptian currency to the UK to keep or exchange at a later date. Think your friend has been mis-informed. Officially you are only allowed to take 1500 LE (拢150) in. Many countries restrict the currency going out too, but the link I had to this is broken. However I have been twice and never been checked. Most of the currrency laws are very out of date Its like that in Tunisia, you have to change your money back at the airport, and you can't get it changed back in the uk. I brought some back anyway. If you can exchange it where you are then it should be ok. |
