What type of oil do they use to cook with in Egypt?

Travel Info
Hoping you can help. My daughter has a severe peanut allergy. We were looking at going on holiday there this summer and are not getting much answers from the travel agents. My daughter would love to visit Egypt but unless we can get this infornation this is unlikely.

Travel Tips
Our main cooking oil is Corn oil, some time sunflower oil.
also we have olive oil but it is used only with salads.

But when you come to Egypt try to eat in 4* or 5* restaurants and tell them in English about that or tell them this " balash zeaat sodany" it means in English "I don't want peanut oil"

Also if you need other info, please contact me :

I wish you a happy vacation with your daughter

Dear , we have different oil in Egypt and you could ask the restaurants not to use oil but butter instead.
we have a butter made in Egypt that is absolutely fabulous. it is not made industrially but in the villages of the farmers and i think it is becoming difficult to obtain in mass quantities, hope some Egyptians living in Egypt answer your question in depth.

We use corn oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, ghee, butter, margarine. Peanut oil is very rarely used. Also, peanut butter is not really an Egyptian favorite.

U have to take care that some of the desserts do include lots of nuts, mostly peanuts u have to make sure to ask thoroughly and explain to the waiters the allergy and they will understand.

I know allergies are not to be taken easily, but as far as food, u have nothing to worry about, enjoy yr time.
sunflower and rape seed oil my boy has a problem with anything cooked in animal fat, so we had to ask, just got back we went with myegypt it was well worth it especially when we had the kids half price, they were also very helpfull before we went they answered all of our Questions. the owner is originally from Wales that pleased us as we live in Rhyl, go you and the kids will love it
Olive oil ,always.
As a very frequent visitor to Egypt (archaeological work) I can assure you, despite the majority of answers you have so far, that the most common oil in Egypt is palm oil. Olive oil is of very poor quality as the climate is not olive friendly. The butter is excellent and so is the meat. All meat.
