What is your opinion( Westerners')about egyptian people(Us)? |
Travel Info i DO want to know how you see me as an egyptian & what do you think about Egypt and egyptians... i hope u don't think that both are monuments just like i feel u do ! :D Travel Tips Hi Ameer, I do not like to generalize, but based on my 4 Egyptian friends, they are very intelligent, wise, polite, hard-working and mild-mannered. They have demonstrated that family is important. All of my Egyptian friends are healthcare workers who I have met in the workplace. 3 of them are doctors and one is a nurse. One is Jewish and the other 2 are Muslim, meaning, I understand the which religions are popular in Egypt. But I do envy that Egyptians are from one of the most historically significant regions in the world in both religion and culture. Torin:) Others Interesting but with caution I don't have a real opinion because I don't know that much about Egypt's people today. I am slightly curious because I studied Cleopatra and the Ptolemy linage some. I have been a fan of Egyptians ever since I came across Omar Sharif. I think the culture is so unique and I envy the rich history and monuments that have withstood the test of time and the elements. It is my dream to travel their someday. Egyptians that I know are warm, hospitable, kind, passionate, argumentative, demanding, intellectual, obsessive, Muslim, Christian or agnostic. If you are worried about what I think of you personaly do'nt because like every one else I personaly do not make judgment until i actualy know the person, like you you have likes and dislikes, but put yourself in a foreigners shoes, for a moment and ask yourself would i be asking this question" if" On arival in a strange country the first thing you are told you have to have a guide as its unsafe here to travel, one of your own people said do not trust the egyptian all he wants is your money, but me I will only charge x amount if you use me as your guide, then i get in a taxi and told it is 20pound to go to the train station on arrival i am told its20拢that is 11 times more than what i am asked originaly, then I carry my bags to the train station and am confronted by a policman who in brocken english askes if he can help, yes,he said and I asked where is the ticket office for Luxor train, at which he takes me to a booth in the centre of the station, and askes for baksheesh to whitch i offered 5le for some 20 steps it took to get from a to b he said it was better i gave 50Le, now in the uk 5拢 is called excesive tipping even to David Beckhams vast amount of money, and to my regret i gave him what i was told to give to the nice freindly policeman, then I was told this is information only go to the kiosk on the entrance the mistake I made was coming in the side entrance that my nice freindly taxi ripoff merchant told me to go in. then on asking for my ticket i was told that I can.not leave until the next day. i said "ok" how much to leave now , as i saw there where local people getting their tickets and heading for the train to Luxor he smiled in the usual got you manner, so i said how much, he gave me the ticket and argued about the extra at which i called for my freindly policeman and instantly he said yala, so before I have boarded my train to Luxor I have been hassled by guides taxi drivers police and a few other persons i did not ask anything of,and then i refused to give the !!porter!! any tip for lifting my casses on a shelf 2 ft off the deck, so he escorted me to my seat at which he turned it around so i could sit facing tottal strangers for a 12 hour trip, and now he said you give me baksheesh yes, i said no not untill you turn the seat back the way it was, and I gave the porter 50piestas to which he sighed and said it was not enough mister, so i took it back , and said mafish faluse, and he must of thought ah this man knows his way around so i will not persue the matter and walked away shaking his head like an idiot, then on arrival in Luxor first i was told the hotel I was booked into had a big problem with a fire, and had to go to another now this was 11 o.clock in the evening and by this time with the hassle even on the train want some chai a sandwich every five minutes and the hawkers running up and down the train at every stop.i was too tirred to argue or even look to see if the Itab hotel had been severly damaged, so I was taken to a seedy hotel called **** on the main street near the station, once the tout left I was then Questioned by the hotel manager over a cup of free chai, what i am doing in luxor what you want to see where you go I said i would like to go to the Valley of the kings, on this he phoned someone and said your taxi is here at 5.30 in the morning to take you, I said wait a minute 5.30 is to early he said if you do not take this special offer it will cost 2 times more later in the day, and you say to go to the place so i book a taxi for you now you have to give me 40Le, at this i told him to piss off and went up for my bags and left this freindly urine stenched flea pit, I was recovered a bit from the chai, and i booked into the winter palace, from there on It was Hi my freind you have much money you stay in the winter palace, like to give me some, 3 years later I now have built a hotel in Luxor West Bank, I still get hassle as i am here on my own a single man as people think, i am an open target to all the boys who would like to play, which as a Christian is one of the things i hate most, i also get many proposals of marriage and because i am already married i decline the very freindly offer of some prostitute, whose familly need my money, and on saying all this I actually love living here I do have some very good Egyptian freinds whom I have chose very warily, and made a few mistakes, my wife when she comes over gets on very well with the ladies here, but even they ask when you come back bring me this bring me that, me i do not find the women here very sociable as it seems they are either worried i am an infidel or what will my family think if they know i am speaking to a foreigner, so i personaly cannot pass comment on if i like or dislike as they do not go past the hello point, so i find this very rude, but i keep this to myself and keep myself to myself, and only say something if it is neccesary, or i get a load of hassle, the other day I thought I had found another freind he actualy invited me for a beer that he paid for we had a long chat about 2 hours in the end after all the talking about people trying to use me or trying to rip me off < it was can you put my hotel on your web site> he had specifically targeted me and waited for me to go accross to the east bank as most know i go on a monday. so that was another let down. I think Egyptians are no different than me or anyone here in USA. There is good and bad people all around the world. I did learn that when "most" Egyptians "love", they love with all of them and forever. The first time I went to Egypt was in 2005 and I loved it. The people were very interesting for me to be around and to look at, lol, and I seen that the Egyptians were very interested in looking at me too. I guess we are all curious about each other when we come from a different country, have different looks and different cultures!!! When I was in Egypt I married an Egyptian man. I have been married to him for 2 years now and he is the best thing that has ever happened in my life. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. I have dated in my past, but I must say that my Egyptian man treats me better than any American man ever treated me. |
