Can a U.S. citizen open a checking account in Egypt?

Travel Info
I'm going to live in Egypt for ten months and want an easy way to deposit money while I am there. I was thinking of opening an HSBC account in Egypt since HSBC is available in many countries. I can then transfer money from my Egyptian HSBC account to my U.S. HSBC account.

Travel Tips
Yes u can as long as u r a have a temporary or permanent residency, if u r living in Egypt on a tourist visa, then forget it.

Apparently, this is an international policy that most countries have already adopted and is designed to combat many laundering.

I am an HSBC client and their fee for international transfer depends on the amount transffered, it is always better to transfer a larger sum, so keep saving and every few months make a transfer. It is usually around 0.5% of amount of more than $500
