Hi, I'm going 2 Egypt in a couple of wks-do u have any hints/tips 4 me and what are the prices like? Thanks ;) |
Travel Info I'm staying in Sharm, then on to Cairo. Anything would be received gratefully... Travel Tips Can't speak about Sharm, but in Cairo...if you have an Egyptian friend...have them pay for the things you want...they are charged a cheaper price than tourists. American dollars go a long way there....exchange your money and be sure to get lots of one pound Egyptian notes.(One dollar) Everyone expects to be rewarded for any service. All Egyptians are extremely friendly...hearts of gold....take sun block and use it. You will not want to ever sleep....so much to see and do...try to do it all....the experience of a life time...guaranteed!!! Cairo never sleeps....ppl are out at all hours of the night...never felt safer. All of Egypt is incredible....from the fancy hotels on the River Nile to the shopping district of Kan el Kalililh. You may never want to leave. If you buy items from a chain store...you pay the price on the tag.....but if you shop in the open market district...bargaining is the rule. Fun to watch even if you don't speak Arabic. Gold is inexpensive in Egypt too. I have been to Egypt 2 times so far and i plan on going back again and again. Oh yeah....drink bottled water!!! Enjoy your trip! Others Sunscreen, water, trendy sandals, hit the markets (you'll find great deals on great quality items), don't be afraid to try new foods (Egyptians are pretty trust-worthy when it comes to food, I think), search for native makeup products (cosmetics), hit the clubs! Don't forget to carry a charged camera; EXQUISITE sites. Bring a translator along (dictionary, whatever) so you won't be too flustered. Learn their customs because some places in Egypt are strict about women's clothing, and do it out of respect and people will treat you better. Take a suit case full of Imodium, you'll need it ! I have been to Egypt many times. I got back from a trip in January where I stayed in Meidum, which is about 75 miles south of Cairo. Bring sunscreen, translator for sure unless you can talk the talk, bring WATER! Seriously, as much as you can take my friend. I had to end my travels early because of extreme sickness from drinking contaminated water. Check out Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forum. They give some great advise form people who live there and have visited. http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/catego... |
