Can you help plan my LUXOR trip? |
Travel Info My partner and I will be arriving in Luxor on the 20th June and are trying to plan our Luxor trip in advance as we leave on the 27th June. I arrive there in the morning on the first day so I thought Karnak temple for the first day (nothing too heavy). Next day I'm thinking the Kings Valley and then crossing the mountain to go to the Hatchibsut Temple and then then after visiting the Habu Temple On my third day I was going to go to the Luxor temple, Luxor Museum and mummifcation museum & the Old Market What do I do from here onwards? We're in our late 20's if that helps. I'd love to go to Cairo to see the pyramids by plane though, any advice? Travel Tips Yes I have been there many times, and yes what you are planning is ok but I think you should limit your self when you go to the west bank. It will be very hot when you go so take something to cover your head and lots of bottles water when you go out and high factor suncream. Find a taxi you feel happy with, I can recommend one if you e mail me. Agree a good price in Egyptian 拢 for the morning. Usually people go there for a morning back for lunch rest in the afternoon you can of course stay longer or go later but the heat tends to get to you. Karnak is a good idea for your first trip, it will take you around 1 or 2 hours to go around if you want a guide there will be plenty hanging around outside, or just by the entrance negotiate a price, there is a small museum inside on the left of the hypostyle hall I would recommend it, its very interesting. You used to buy the tickets outside where you get the Karnack tickets but I think you buy inside now at the entrance to the museum but ask. You can鈥檛 go out and get them once your inside. I think maybe you will find day 2 hard but you鈥檙e young so maybe you be ok.but if youre thinking of walking across the mountain rather than taking the taxi then I think I would forget habu that day. Another day I would recommend the tombs of the nobles/ workman鈥檚 tombs called deir el medina and the valley of the queens. But not altogether. but do go and see at least one of these, the paintings in workman鈥檚 and nobles are completely different from the kings and queens. and the queens are in better condition that many of the kings tombs. day 3 again you have given your self a hard day. The museum is air-conditioned and there is a restaurant there (though I have no idea if its any good) but you will need 2 hours for the museum, 1 to 1 half hour for luxor temple and half hour to 1 hour for mummification museum. . go to the shops in the evening, it will be cooler and they will be open til late. Cairo as you said is a flight away about an hour. a day trip will cost you around 拢100 altogether, it is possible to go for a day trip and see both the museum and the pyramids but its tough day and you may be getting quite tired by now. but if you want to do this then fly down take a taxi to the pyramids first for a couple of hours then go to the museum. fly back early evening. it takes about 1 hour to get to each of these places or longer if the traffics bad. back in luxor you could also go to dendera ( about an hours convoy away) a lovely temple my favourite, it will be a full mornings trip. there is also the ramesseum on the west bank and the seti temple. They both have their merits and are interesting but I would put the tombs I mentioned, above them.. yes ballon rides are supposed to be great as well. please don鈥檛 hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Have a great time, i have rushed writing this so its a bit bitty, but you really will love it and have a super time. edit take english pounds out there, buy your visa when you arrive usually costs about 拢10 each they will want english cash for this, also go on a felucca for a ride at sunset. go and watch belly dancer, for a real dive try the golden palace on tv street, the cellar bar has to be seen to be believed but the roof bar is nice.or if you want somewhere a little more civislized then go to Etap disco. buy some duty free booze to take in with you, alcohol is expensive in egypt. eating out cheapest in local restaurants is cheapest but take care they look ok. there are a number by the sheraton hotel eating in hotels is more expensive. Others make sure you bring plenty of pills for the squirts cause i gaurantee that you will get them Cairo is to far and would be very expensive to get to for just a day trip. I would find a boat tour so you can go down the Nile. You really don't spend that much time at each temple unless you have a guide to tell you all about it. I would really recommend a hot air balloon ride over the plains. It is a wonderful experience, it cost about 拢90 each but it is worth it, it stays with you forever. Do not ride donkeys out to the balloon though, it looked very uncomfortable. Have tea at the Winter Palace Hotel, nothing spectacular but certainly old world charm. Enjoy your holiday, and it is the hottest time of the year so be prepared for hot hot hot. look at my web site?? you can do cairo in a day to see the pyramids at giza and the museum, two days if you need to see more such as sakara etc,It does not cost anything to send an E_mail it may save you loads of time and money. leave the airport do Karnak the musium and Luxor Temple the following day do the balloon over the valleys of K & Q see all the temples before you visit on foot, then go to the v of k Hatshepsut V of Q and then Medinet Habu there are over one hundred tombs and temples on our doorstep. to see all you need at least a week here then either take a nile Cruise or go to Cairo, all this you can plan after you arrive no worries, by the way do not over load its nice and warm here cover yourselves thin cotton scarves are cheap here you do not need pills if you watch where you eat and what you eat, the only ones you need are paracitamol but they also are inexpensive and work just as well tummy pills,I am in my second Year living here and from Wales, and if I do not see you have a nice break, Egypt is wonderfull and will have nice memories for you to take back with you until you come again, which you will. |
