Visiting the Pyramids?

We are going to Hurghada in July and would like to fly to Cairo to visit the Pyramids. Is it better to book the tickets in UK or in Egypt when we get there?
Whats the best way to get from Cairo to the Pyramids, there will be 4 adults and two childern in our party, any tips for this visit would be welcome

Cairo to the Pyramids? It's about 15 mins by bus. Giza is a suburb of Cairo. Just make sure you don't get ripped pff and pay silly money. The euivalent of 30p each is all you should pay

Yep, I agree. watch out for the grifters though, and it is a lot less glamorous than it appears.
Many companies organise overday tour to cairo from Hurghada or overnight. It takes about 5 and half hours to go to Cairo by bus.
It's better by flight when you have kids. It's better to book everything as early as possible specially flights. I'm not sure if you will make the Cairo visit alone or with a company and tour guide. If you will go alone. Take cairo cab {yellow taxi} from the airport and keep it with you till you come back to the airport. If you don't know how to find it ask someone in the Airport. It's better than normal taxi. It can be exactly as you rent a car with a driver for the day and may be the cost is less.
You didn't mention if you will spend one day or you'll sleep in Cairo. Any way you can visit the Pyramids in the morning then back to visit the Egyptian museum down town, then the citadel and Mohamed Ali Mosque. When you finish the citadel go to {Al Azhar Park} very close to the citadel. Nice place to visit and take lunch. Before the sunset in Al Azhar Park try to go to the top and watch the view over Cairo.
If you still have time you can go to visit Khan El Khalily area which is interesting and near to that area.
If you want to cancel a visit from that tour, you can cancel the Citadel, but don't miss Al Azhar Park or the museum.

Take an official one day tour around Cairo. You will visit the Pyramids and enter the Great Pyramid, the Cairo Museum, a perfumery, a how they make Papyrus exhibition among other things learn something about heiroglphics. A very full and interesting day.
wait till you get to Egypt then book the flight to Cairo. its cheaper and there is a regular flight morning and evening,taxi from the airport to giza about 120le pay no more than that

all of our 2 week trip was with them cos we made a big mistake going to Hurgada, some like it but we did not.
Book in advance with an experienced agent. Make sure he has satisfied customers.
