Travel Info Has anyone done a cruise of the nile? if so was it worth it and which uk tour operator would you recommend? Travel Tips The Nile cruise trip is very nice if you make the good choices. 'William w' has a bad experience most probably becasue of a bad tour operator and everything after was a result of bad company or operator. You are wise enough that you asked for a tour operator. I don't like tomention names, but there are names like Abercrombie or Thomas cook or known enough. I can expect their prices are high and there are many other companies cheap and good, but not easy at all to decide which one. My advices : Good cruises has good service and good tour guides. Almost all (5 stars deluxe cruises). I don't recommend you 4 stars cruises or lower. There are many visits in the tour which are the basic visits, so 5 days are not enough. I recommend you take the 7 days/6 nights. The best is 7 days starting from (Luxor and ending with Aswan) Don't buy anything from Luxor. Wait till you go to Aswan. Almost all Nile cruises has a good food and it's full board, but not the restaurants outside. Don't expect you'll meet Egyptian angels working in tourism or markets. I can just tell that in Aswan the people are more kind than the rest of us (Egyptians). If you speak with them you'll know that they may invite you for lunch or drink while their life is simple and poor. When you buy from them they wish high prices but they may accept anything finally. This is not in any other place in Egypt, it's special in Aswan. The dessert temple in the dessert that 'William w' means is Abu Simbel that any visitor should know before thinking about Egypt. It's an optional visit and it can be done from Aswan. I don't want to make my answer longer, so you can send me if you need any more information that can't be found in books. I wish you good choice and welcome in Egypt Source(s): I work in Tourism Other Travel Tips i did it it was wonderfull I did and really enjoyed it. However, everyone got sick and when we spoke to people on other boats, it was a common experience. I was surprise how many people who were older came and moaned about everything. You do feel like cattle being horded around and the market sellers are very, very aggressive and will actually pull on your arms. Our "guide" kept taking us to places such as the papyrus factory and the perfume factory, which were just tourist traps. He would take us to a temple and then on the way back we would stop off these places. He would leave 20 of us in a room and they would serve us tea and hard sell things to us. It got so bad we all cornered him as a group and told him not to do it again - it was really funny, a sort of mutany! Anyway, everyone is trying to rip you off. I am glad I went, but it was not particularly relaxing. It was cheap and hot and I loved it but I would not do it again. I would never do it with children, or if I was older and did not want hassle. One thing...the most expensive trip was on a plane into the desert to see a temple carved into the rock. I only heard good things about this trip, but could not afford it. All the boats looked very similar to ours and in fact you walk through them when they moor up, because they moor next to each other - so I could not recommend an operator. still rather a dangerous area to go to unfortunately Look up the following websites: Direct holidays UK Thomas cook website first choice holidays website www.travelbag.com last year i did a nile cruise with my husband and 2 girls aged 13 and 9. we loved it. ok its not very relaxing as there are lots of things to see but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. we went with longwoods holidays who you can find on the net and had 7 nights from luxor-aswan-luxor with presidential nile cruises. we can't fault them at all. wonderful service. i would certainly do it again. if there are any stops for papyrus and perfume 'museums' and there will be don't get off the coach. we didnt unless you want to. the girls absolutely loved it and they would do it again too. so you can take children but not many operators take them. longwoods definitely do. i do hope you do a nile cruise as it is an experience of a lifetime. you see so much of egypt. it felt like home by the time we left. longwoods are great though so please consider with going with them. can't fault them either. good luck with your choice |
