What is a cheap and cost-effective local GSM/SIM card for Egypt? |
Travel Info Hi, I will be traveling to Egypt soon, and was wondering what is a good, low-cost Egyptian GSM carrier. I am planning on purchasing a SIM chip when I arrive in Cairo. Any tips or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Travel Tips DON'T buy a holiday Sim at vodaphone .. the price is the same but u will not be able to use it at your next trip -- my advice is having the normal Mobinil line for about 30 LE . and don't forget to activate roaming be4 leaving Egypt .. this will keep your Sim active and ready if you visited Egypt again after 2 or3 years ( this mean you have the same sin every visit / the same number ... and means that you can use your sin as soon as you arrive any egy airport next year Others There are two networks here.....vodafone&mobinil the sim will cost around 100le normally..this should also include credit to get you started. The supplier will be able to advise you on cost of calls&sms but should be considerably low in comparison to using your own network. Enjoy your trip!!! The price i gave you is for the vodafone sim that will give you the lowest cost for calls & sms messages. Good answers from other members...the choice is yours depending on you budget of course & like i have already said the supplier will be able to advise you. You will probably be asked to produce your passport details to purchase this one, but not for a tourist sim which in effect will cost you more because of the higher rate charged. you can buy a holiday sim at vodaphone it only lasts about 6 weeks though can be extended up to 3 months i think it is and will cost you around 35 EP, top up as you need it. THere are only 3 Vodafone, Mobinil and a new one that the names slips my mind. VOdafone seems to have the better quality. Last time i used mobinil and didnt like it. there are a few different plans depending on if most of your call will be local or overseas. Its 20le for a sim card or so. and averages about 50 cents a minute for overseas calls....just make sure your phone is unlocked..actually the answer below mine is NOT correct, the sim will NOT last that long, it must be renewed every so often. to buy sim here, now we have 3 kind of networks and companies, and for you as a short term any of the 3 sompanies is work good and fine. avreage price for new line and simcard, it is around 20 egyptain pound = 4 u$, then you will need to used kind of credit cards to get some credat to make phone calls, almost the price for 1 mint about half pound, if u make calls inside egypt, if you use it for international calls it is different. wish u a nice trip. www.hophoptravel.com |
