Is it safe to travel to tourist destinations in Egypt? |
Travel Info Just wondering, as I will be going to Egypt in September. Travel Tips Yes, it is. My husband and I are going in the fall this year, as well. He's a tiny bit concerned, as his appearance screams "All-American Boy!", but I blend, because I am half-Arab. When we decided that he would accompany me, I checked and there hasn't been one incident of violence against foreign visitors in several years. The very best source for finding out if a place is safe is to read the US State Department's Travel Advisories. Those are updated regularly, and advisories are issued for any area of the world where it is felt to be unsafe for citizens of the US to travel. I know people who are not US citizens, but who read the travel advisories because they are considered fairly valid for all people from western countries. A travel agent is not the best source of information, simply because their pay depends on your trip, and they often aren't adequately informed about what is going on. The US State Department, however, keeps track of all acts of violence against all people, not just those from the US, and professional analysts make the advisories about when it is dangerous for a person to travel. Here is a list to their travel warnings list: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw... You can just bookmark it and then go back to it regularly if you have any questions before you go. It is updated regularly when the US government feels it is necessary. I would like to just add two other things of which you might not be aware. One is that you should have a good course of vaccinations before travel to Egypt. Vaccination schedules vary depending on where you are going, but I know that most doctors can tell you what you need. If you haven't already started your shots, you should talk to your doctor right away, as some of them are given in a series, and you will want the series to be completed before you travel. If your doctor doesn't know what to give you, check the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) website, as they have a list of recommended vaccinations. The other is that you should keep contact information for the diplomatic mission of your country where you can get at it easily when you travel to a foreign country. If you are from the US, you will need the information for the US Embassy in Egypt. Most countries have a diplomatic mission to Egypt. Those that do not have their citizens contact the diplomatic mission of another country, where the officers will act in their stead. For instance, if the US didn't have an embassy there, they would probably have an arrangement with the English embassy, and the English would be responsible for US citizens who need assistance. You just need to know who you should contact in the event of an emergency, such as becoming very sick or being injured. You need to contact the diplomatic mission of the country that issues your passport. Just keep the number handy. The chances of something bad happening are so minuscule as to be practically nil, but I do know a woman who was in Egypt with her parents, down in Luxor, when her father had a massive heart attack. The US embassy arranged for him to be airlifted to Cairo, where he was stabilized, and then had him moved on to a US military hospital in Germany, where he was treated until he was well enough to fly back to the US. Congratulations on your trip! I am sure you will have an amazing time. The antiquities are exquisite and mindblowing. The people are some of the nicest in the world. Just be sure to take extra money for souvenirs, and lots of film. Happy travels! Others very safe, just try it More safe than many other places in the world. The people here are always around you. What makes you feel more safe. It's absolutly safe, and remember bad things could happen anywhere anway. just be careful and prepared. you will enjoy it, but hey be aware from sales people, you know they trying to overcharge sometimes. Egyptian are so nice and friendly, we are going there in Agust 24th to septembet 2nd . yes, been there lots of times, never had aproblem with safety, but you may have a problem with over eager salesmen yes it is very safe all u will need is a visa u can get at the airport when u land they are about 拢10 enjoy it is usually very safe. however, if you have Israeli citizenship or passport, you're probably recommend to find a different place for your vacation. |
