Sounds good. The red sea has a lot to offer when it comes to snorkelling or scuba diving. There are also other activities like quad biking in the desert, boat rides etc.

I would suggest Luxor as a good place to see the sights as that was where the Pharos lived in ancient times. The temple of karnak is excellent and absolutely massive. The valley of the kings is cool too.

And obviously the Pyramids are a must see, but there isn't much else to see round that area so I would stick around Luxor and the red sea the longest.
Been there twice and love it.
Fly on Air France to Alexandria, Egypt and work your way down the Nile. You must visit Alexandria with all its history, culture, and Mediterranean scenery. Stay here for three days as you spend days at the beach, the markets, touring the Delta, the ancient library. Spend several days here. From Alexandria, buy a two-week long rail pass to take a train to Cairo. You could spend just about a week here. Stay at the Hilton here, it's the best. In Cairo, you can visit the great pyramids, the various mosques, the bazaars, and so much more. Head further south by the end of the following week in order to visit Luxor, Abu Simbel, and Lake Nasser near the Sudanese border. After visiting Lake Nasser, fly north to Sharm el Sheikh for a week to stay at one of the world-class resorts. After that, you can fly back to Alexandria or Cairo to catch your flight back home.
I was researching this recently. Not a complete answer, but some ideas for elements of an ittinery you may end up putting together yourself:

I thought a good element in such an ittinery would be the sleeper train from Cairo to Luxor: http://www.sleepingtrains.com/

Also, check the typical temperatures will be OK for the dates you plan to go - it can get very hot.

Another element to include might be a cruise down the Nile. Either a multi-day cruise from place to place, or a one day cruise, like the one from Luxor.

Internal flights between places like Cairo, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh can be researched/booked at http://www.ebookers.com and http://www.expedia.co.uk
i have been to Egypt many times and spent time in Cairo, luxor and sharm. i have not however been to Alex. my recommendation would be to start in Cairo, its a 5 to 5 and half hour flight from London. spend a few days in Cairo see the pyramids, the Cairo museum, (where Tutankhamen's grave goods are and much much more). Also the various Islamic monuments in cairo as well as the khan el khalili the medieval market area. If you have more time then go to Saqarra. 3 days. i would then go up to Luxor and either spend time in luxor and see all the sights there in which case you might want to spend more time in cairo. or go on a nile cruise which will include many of the sites up the nile to aswan. (1 week) On your return you can spend 2 or 3 days in luxor seeing a few of the things you will not have seen on the cruise. such as medinet habu, the valley of the nobles and the valley of the workman and maybe the valley of the queens. The cruise usually includes, the valley of the kings the valley of the queens and hatshepsut on the west bank. on the east bank you will also see Karnak and Luxor temple and possibly the luxor museum and or Dendera.finish up with the redsea. I have only stayed in sharm on the red sea and i believe the dives there are the best. but i understand that the resorts on the main land side of the red sea, e.g. hughada, are very good as well. the itinery i have laid out is a very heavy one. but it is easy for you to take stuff out. and to include more rest.
