Recommend ATM use in Cairo, Egypt? |
Travel Info Can I use either a Bank of Am. or Citibank debit card while in Cairo, via their local ATM machines? Does it automatically give me Egyptian Pounds or offer me US currency? Should I just leave my cards behind and take lots of cash instead? Travel Tips Getting money from an ATM is not a problem. You can use your ATM at virtually any bank, even an Egyptian bank... and it will typically only offer you the local currency. There will be a small transaction fee... and in the long run you save money by taking out everything you need all in one trip to the ATM. If you can't find a CitiBank I would also reccomend HSBC as your next choice. If you are extremely worried about the safety of your money, traveler's checks are always the "safest" option. You can get them at your local bank and find tons of places to change them in Cairo. If they get stolen, you will be refunded. However, this option is the most expensive. Source(s): a lot of international traveling... Other Travel Tips i am English and have used visa cards in the ATM. they have only ever offered me Egyptian pounds. But i have sometimes had problems with the Egyptian atm's if the connections are down particularly on national holidays. ATM cards will work fine and will be better than trying to change cash. Never had any problems with them. You will not be able to withdraw USD but when you check your bank statement it will show the exchange amounts. |
