Travel Info How far is from sharm el sheilkh to the valley of the kings and which is the best way to visit? Travel Tips The distance betwee Sharm El Sheikh and luxor is around 1200Km (600 from Sharm to Cairo and another 600 from Cairo to Luxor) Flying seems to be the best option but I have no idea about the schedules... but I don't think you'll find frequent trips as it is not a common route, maybe you should look for chartered ones. Trains seem to be the best option... you have daily overnight (sleeping couches) trips from Cairo to Luxor (Trains do not reach Sharm so you still have to go to Cairo by bus or air)... and I don't know where Traci F got that notion of bandits shooting at trains... I've been living in Egypt all my life never heard of such a thing!!! Maybe too much pirates movies ;) There is one more option... but I'm really not sure about it's viability... there are ferries that go to Hurghada from Sharm El Sheikh (Crossing the red sea) From Hurghada the distance to Luxor is only around 300 Km (through Safaga and Qena)... But don't take my word for it... I've never heard anyone going to Luxor this way... Others Sharm is nearer the Israeli border that's why its on the red sea, V.O.T.k. is in Luxor at least a plane ride away. I wouldn't go by train because bandits shoot at them. Anyway there is so much to see at luxor it deserves its own holiday. Its about one hours flight and as far as i know it is not possible to visit. There is only one flight that i know of in the week on a Tuesday so its not possible to get there are back in one day. To go overland you need to drive all the way via Cairo and that is a long way.you could also take the train but again its a long trip its about 10 hours just to luxor from Cairo. i guess you could fly to Cairo and then to luxor, but you would be better going for a second holiday to luxor and seeing everything. there is a great deal to see there. edit. Unless you fly via Cairo you are looking at a journey of many hours probably at least 12. i would not recommend any other way of travel except flying you will find it arduous in the extreme, as facilities are unlikely to be what you are used to. OK it is too far ,sharm el sheikh is in Sinai in the east of Egypt but the valley of the kings in al aksar city in the upper of egypt but you know you can use the air port to go to them. i recomended visiting sharm becouse al aksr will be hot in this time of the year . good luck you can use google earth to see thier position , or try google search http://www.eternalegypt.org/eternalegypt... The flight option is the best but it's not always available. The other alternative is the boat from Sharm to Hurghada and then by bus to Luxor. Just don't imagine it can be over day or you can go and return in the same day. From Sharm to Hurghada it takes 2 hours in the normal weather. From Hurghada to Luxor it takes from 4 to 6 hours by bus. If you are a small group or family you may go from Hurghada with a microbus or taxi but it's not advisable for many reasons. I wish you good luck and send me for more information if you need. Welcome to Egypt it's not far sharm el sheikh to the valley of the kings may be taken by train or plane and you can enjoy with your travel |
