Places to avoid in florence italy? |
Travel Info Places to avoid in florence italy? Travel Tips Florence is a pretty safe city, and you generally won't have an problems. Be on the lookout for gypsies - they are mostly around the "touristy" churches. (The Duomo, Santa Maria Novella, etc.) Besides that, the train station should be avoided late night, as well as Santa Maria Novella unless you are with a group (the guys are mostly harmless, but they will call out and whistle, so if this makes you uncomfortable, stay away). The only "dangerous" place I encountered while living in Florence was actually one block. Via Sant'Orsola is a small alley at the southern end of Via Santa Reparata, between Via Guelfa and Via Taddea near the Mercato Centrale. It's closed to vehicles - strictly pedestrian traffic and motos. There's an odd outcropping of a building that creates a very large blind spot. You will see people walk here in the day, but at night it's best to walk around the block - and the next street over is Via de'Ginori, which has plenty of stores and restaurants that are worth checking out anyway. (BTW - Via Sant'Orsola is basically a public toilet, so besides the safety issue, it can get pretty rank in the hotter months.) Have a fun and safe trip! Source(s): I lived in Florence for a year, and on Via Santa Reparata for half of that year. I did walk on this street, but never at night! Other Travel Tips i walke most of florence when I was there I didn't find any bad places at least before it got very late hit the jewlery district around 9:00 am when it opens kinda cool the area arround the train station at night... tons of prositutes and pick pockets there Avoid Florence altogether. I just got back from Italy and Florence thoroughly let me down. It was trashy and run down. It stunk. It was nowhere near the level of beauty as Rome. All in all it's safe but it's trashy and not fun. I completely disagree with the response prior to this. I loved Florence and thought Rome was over run with tourists, gypsies, etc. I found Florence to be a pretty safe city. The biggest problem I had was with gypsies constantly begging. It got to be really annoying. Finally, I put my hand in some young woman's face. I would stay away from the Termini area at night, but other than that it was great. |
