My family was Austrian. They got all their property taken away and had to flee the country when the Nazis were invited in. Before that they got to scrub the streets on their hands and knees at gunpoint.

The country also suffered a severe depression and hyperinflation, like Germany, as a consequence of the war reparations imposed by the Allied Powers after WWI.
